Day Trip to the Agafay Desert

On this day trip to the Agafay Desert, you will have the opportunity to explore incredible landscapes of the dry stone desert. The Agafay Desert is located just 40 kilometers southwest of Marrakech, between the eastern lake Lalla Takerkoust, south of the High Atlas Mountains. During our excursion to the Agafay Desert from Marrakech, we will explore the untouched nature of a desert and wasteland area.
The landscape of the Agafay Desert is covered with wheat, barley, and flowers; however, in the summer and autumn months, it resembles a true desert with flowing dunes and the advantage of majestic views of the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains in the background. In spring, Agafay offers wildflowers among other species of flora and fauna, making it a picturesque and wonderful experience in the desert. Keep in mind that the Agafay Desert is rather bland compared to the more popular Sahara Desert experience in the Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga dunes, but that requires a minimum of 3 days and 2 nights for that trip.
Your driver will pick you up at 9 a.m. Departure for the excursion will give you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside, Lake Takerkoust, and the Agafay Desert. The route is shaded by lush vegetation, olive and orange orchards, and passes through the occasional village of Ait Imour from where we will leave the road and drive through a completely different landscape of stone desert, light brown plateaus, Bedouin village, oasis, and then high hills with panoramic views of the High Atlas. A few hours later, small patches of green will begin to appear, and not long after, you will return to the paved road lined with old eucalyptus trees. You will arrive at the edge of Lake Lalla Takerkoust, built as a dam from where Marrakech gets electricity. Through small hills along the dam, you will reach the Nfis valley, crossing villages Lalla Takerkoust immediately is the Agafay Desert.
You will have the option of a 1-hour camel ride or Quad bike ride, time to explore the desert, walk, take photos.
